Crombie Unveils Community Safety Plan Focused on Frontline Policing, Accountability and Safer Neighbourhoods

MISSISSAUGA, ON — Bonnie Crombie today released her detailed Community Safety Plan, pledging to put the Mayor back at the public-safety table, support Chief Nishan Duraiappah and Peel Regional Police, strengthen frontline policing and demand better value for taxpayers.

“I support our police, I support our Chief and I support the frontline officers who work every day to keep our communities safe,” said Crombie. “They need the tools and resources to do their jobs, and taxpayers deserve to know those investments are delivering results.”

Crombie said she will return to the Peel Police Services Board if elected Mayor, contrasting her approach with current Mayor Carolyn Parrish, who left the Board after disagreeing with its budget decisions.

“You cannot influence decisions from the sidelines. You have to be at the table,” said Crombie. “The current Mayor walked away. That was an abdication of leadership. I will go back, work constructively with the Chief and do the work.”

Crombie's comprehensive 13-point plan includes commitments to:

• support Peel Police's work to combat home invasions, auto theft, extortion, organized crime and repeat violent offending;
• strengthen action on hate crime and supports for targeted communities;
• reduce unnecessary administrative burdens on officers through greater civilian support and responsible use of artificial intelligence;
• continue improving 911 and non-emergency response;
• strengthen visible frontline policing and mental-health crisis response;
• launch an annual Public Safety Value Review to identify efficiencies and protect frontline policing;
• improve road and back-to-school safety, including action on dangerous and underage e-scooter use;
• invest in youth prevention and opportunity; and
• publish a quarterly Community Safety Dashboard so residents can see whether Mississauga is becoming safer.

Crombie previously served on the Peel Police Services Board, where she worked with the Chief and fellow Board members to support continued investment in frontline policing, modernize emergency communications, strengthen mental-health crisis response and advance human-rights initiatives.

“Supporting police and protecting taxpayers are not competing priorities,” said Crombie. “We can back our officers, cut unnecessary paperwork, demand results and keep Mississauga safe.”
