Second Major Poll in Days Puts Bonnie Crombie Ahead in Tight Mississauga Mayoral Race
Liaison survey of 1,000 residents follows Mainstreet poll showing Crombie ahead of incumbent Mayor Carolyn Parrish
MISSISSAUGA — For the second time in days, a major public poll surveying at least 1,000 Mississauga residents has Bonnie Crombie narrowly ahead of incumbent Mayor Carolyn Parrish as the campaign enters its final three weeks.
As reported by The Toronto Star this morning, the latest Liaison Strategies poll puts Crombie at 30 per cent, compared with 29 per cent for Parrish, among decided and leaning voters.
The Liaison survey of 1,000 Mississauga residents follows last week’s Mainstreet Research poll of 1,404 residents, which put Crombie at 30.4 per cent, ahead of Parrish at 27.6 per cent among decided voters.
Two large public polls. Two narrow Crombie leads. And one very clear conclusion: this race is extremely close.
Both polls also reinforce what Bonnie has been hearing at doors across Mississauga: affordability is the number one concern for residents. Liaison found affordability has grown significantly as an issue since August and is now the clear top concern for Mississauga voters.
“This election is going to be close and we are taking absolutely nothing for granted,” said Crombie. “Residents are worried about what things cost, the 15% increase in taxes in just two years, and whether they are getting good value from City Hall. My focus is on practical, responsible solutions that will make life more affordable.”
Crombie has committed to bringing property-tax increases back under control, undertaking a line-by-line review of City spending and delivering better value for taxpayers.
“Mississauga residents deserve serious plans that add up — not pie-in-the-sky campaign promises that offer everything to everyone without explaining how to pay for it,” said Crombie. “I have always believed in doing the homework, being responsible with taxpayers’ money and delivering what I promise. That’s what Hazel taught me.”
Crombie is also campaigning on supporting frontline first responders, reducing congestion and bringing Toronto’s Line 2 subway into the heart of Mississauga.
The new Liaison poll comes as advance voting begins Tuesday, October 6. Advance polls run through October 11, ahead of Election Day on October 26.
“We have momentum, but this race could not be tighter,” said Crombie. “Our team will keep working for every vote, in every neighbourhood, right through to October 26.”
