Bonnie Crombie officially registers to run for Mayor of Mississauga

MISSISSAUGA, ON — 14 July 2026 — Bonnie Crombie officially registered today as a candidate for Mayor of Mississauga, launching a campaign to restore strong leadership at City Hall and get the city moving again.

Crombie served as Mayor of Mississauga for nearly a decade, winning three consecutive city-wide mandates and leading a period of significant investment in housing, transit, infrastructure, community services and economic development.

In a statement, Crombie said:

Over the past several months, I have heard the same message from residents: City Hall is at a standstill. It has never been more expensive to live here. Residents do not feel as safe as they once did with rising crime. Businesses and commuters are paying the price for delayed transit projects and worsening gridlock.

For the past two years, Mississauga has experienced drift instead of direction. Important decisions have been delayed, major projects have lost momentum, taxes have gone up and residents are not seeing the focused, energetic leadership they expect from the mayor's office.

Mississauga is too important and its challenges are too serious. Our city needs strong, visible and engaged leadership again.

Having served as your Mayor for nearly a decade, I know what can be accomplished when City Hall brings people together and remains relentlessly focused on delivering results.

Mississauga's best days are still ahead. Getting there will require energy, proven leadership and a clear plan to build a city that is more affordable, safer and more prosperous. We need a city where young people can afford to rent or buy their first home, families can build their future, seniors can age in place, everyone is safe and police are supported to fight crime, and businesses can grow and create good-paying jobs.

I look forward to listening to residents, outlining my vision for the future of Mississauga and earning their support. It is time to get Mississauga moving again.

The coming election will present voters with a clear choice: more years of inaction and rising taxes under Carolyn Parrish or Bonnie Crombie's experienced leadership with a record of getting results.

Crombie's campaign will focus on four priorities: building a more affordable future, improving community safety, reducing congestion and restoring accountable, results-oriented leadership at City Hall.

• Kept Mississauga's average annual city tax increase to approximately 1.7 per cent during her time as mayor, while maintaining the City's AAA credit rating.
• Helped secure nearly $9 billion in federal and provincial investment for Mississauga.
• Secured full funding for the Hazel McCallion LRT and advanced major transit priorities, including the Dundas and Lakeshore BRT projects and all-day, two-way Milton GO service.
• Issued permits for more than 26,000 new homes and launched Mississauga's first comprehensive housing strategy.

About Bonnie Crombie

Bonnie Crombie is a business leader and experienced public servant who served as the Mayor of Mississauga from 2014 to 2024.

First elected mayor in 2014, Crombie won three consecutive city-wide mandates, receiving 64 per cent of the vote in 2014, 77 per cent in 2018 and 79 per cent in 2022.

Before becoming mayor, Crombie represented Ward 5 on Mississauga City Council and Peel Regional Council from 2011 to 2014. She previously served as the Member of Parliament for Mississauga—Streetsville from 2008 to 2011.

From 2023 to 2026, Crombie served as leader of the Ontario Liberal Party. She led a province-wide campaign focused on healthcare and cutting taxes to make life more affordable. Under her leadership, the party earned 30 per cent of the vote and regained official party status in the Ontario Legislature.

As Mayor, Crombie helped secure major investments in housing, transit, roads, community infrastructure and economic development. Her administration advanced the Hazel McCallion LRT, launched Mississauga's first city-wide housing strategy, revitalized community centres, and attracted new jobs and investment.

Before entering public life, Crombie held senior leadership positions in marketing, public affairs and government relations, including roles with McDonald's Corp, The Walt Disney Company and the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in political science and international relations from the University of Toronto and a Master of Business Administration from York University's Schulich School of Business. She earned the Institute of Corporate Directors' designation through the Rotman School of Management.

Crombie is the mother of three adult children and a proud new grandmother. She has deep personal, professional and community roots in Mississauga where she has lived for nearly three decades.
