Former Peel Police Board Chair Backs Bonnie Crombie’s Community Safety Plan

MISSISSAUGA, ON — Bonnie Crombie today renewed her commitment to deliver a safer Mississauga, highlighting her detailed Community Safety Plan and a new endorsement from former Peel Police Services Board Chair Ron Chatha.

Crombie’s plan would return the Mayor to the Peel Police Services Board, support frontline policing and focus resources on the crimes residents are most concerned about, including home invasions, auto theft, extortion, organized crime and repeat violent offending. It also calls for stronger youth prevention, better 911 and non-emergency response and clearer public reporting on whether safety investments are delivering results.

“Bonnie will fight for a safer city. She understands the importance of working closely with police, supporting our Chief and frontline officers, and delivering results—fighting crime, supporting our youth, and keeping our communities safe,” said Ron Chatha, former Chair of Peel Police Services Board.

Crombie said the endorsement speaks to the kind of leadership she would bring back to City Hall.

“Residents deserve to feel safe in their homes and neighbourhoods, and they deserve a Mayor who will stay at the table and do the work,” said Crombie. “I strongly support the Chief and our frontline officers. As Mayor, I will work constructively with police, focus on the crimes residents fear most and demand measurable results for taxpayers.”

Crombie previously served on the Peel Police Services Board. During her tenure, she worked with the Chief and fellow Board members to support continued investment in frontline policing, including funding for 135 additional officers in the final budget approved while she served.

Her Community Safety Plan is built around a simple commitment: support the police, strengthen the frontline and make every public-safety dollar count.
